Southampton defender Jan Bednarek is believed to be nursing a foot injury.

According to claims from Polish news outlet Przeglad Sportowy, as translated by Sport Witness, the young defender is currently struggling with tendinitis in his foot.

The centre-back has not featured for Southampton in the Premier League yet this season, making only one competitive appearance in the Carabao Cup clash with Brighton and Hove Albion.

However, he is still regarded as an important part of the Poland national team’s plans and lined up for his country as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Italy last week.

Bednarek played the duration of the clash but is reported to have struggled through, with pain-killers used to push the defender through the match.

Although the 22-year-old’s injury isn’t believed to be one of a serious extent, Southampton will be left concerned by Bednarek’s apparent foot issue as they prepare for a busy period in the domestic campaigns.

Following his emergence on the first-team scene at St Mary’s last season, Bednarek is now an established Poland international, having played regularly for the national team in the 2018 World Cup.
