Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been reflecting on his red card against Leicester City last month.
Speaking to Danish news outlet Sport TV2, the Saints star admitted that he made a big mistake in diving whilst on a yellow card in the team’s 2-1 defeat to the Foxes earlier on in the season.
Hojbjerg was dismissed for a second bookable offence in the final periods of the game and saw his error cost the Saints, as Leicester netted late on to come away with all three points.
However, since this incident, Hojbjerg has bounced back. He was handed another chance to shine in the recent game at Crystal Palace by Mark Hughes and duly delivered, netting Southampton’s second goal in a 2-0 win.
Hojbjerg is putting the first red card of his senior career behind him and admitted to TV2 that his actions crossed the ‘boundary’.
I never thought it would happen because I have to be – and I am – the type of player that needs to be aware I have a responsibility and I need to know where the boundary is.
Concluding the interview, the former Bayern Munich youngster joked:
I have to learn to jump a little better next time.
