Hughes tips Redmond for a successful campaign

Southampton manager Mark Hughes has been discussing Nathan Redmond’s strong start to the Premier League season.

Redmond has started in each of Southampton’s first four games of the Premier League and has caught the eye with some effervescent displays in the wide areas.

The winger has started the campaign in fine fashion under Hughes, seemingly putting his shortcomings from the previous season behind him.

Speaking to the Daily Echo after Saints’ win away at Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, Hughes confirmed that Redmond is currently “in a good place”.

He’s taken on a lot of information. Nathan is a young man who has got undoubted talent but is a young man who maybe lost his way a little bit and lost a bit of confidence.

He’s in a good place at the moment and I think that showed with the way he’s engaged in the game and is trying to affect the game.

The 24-year-old struggled to truly influence proceedings throughout last season, finding the net on only one occasion. However, Redmond is showing plenty of promise with his recent displays, much to the excitement of large sections of Southampton’s fan-base.

Hughes will be keen for Redmond to continue his recent vein of form as Southampton prepare for a difficult period, starting with a home clash against Brighton and Hove Albion after the international break.

He’s always demanding the ball which is a sign of a player who has got a lot of confidence in what he’s trying to do. We have got to maintain that level of confidence in Nathan and if we do, he can be a big factor for us.
