Southampton will take on Everton at Goodison Park in the third round of the Carabao Cup, it has been confirmed.
The Saints progressed to the third round of the competition after defeating Brighton and Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium on Tuesday night. Charlie Austin netted the decisive goal in the encounter.
Southampton have already bettered their performance in last season’s Carabao Cup when they were eliminated in the second round by then-Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Everton progressed comfortably through to the third round of the competition on Wednesday night. They convincingly defeated lower league opposition in Rotherham and will be hoping for cup success this season.
The Toffees have already hosted Southampton this term. They defeated Mark Hughes’ side 2-1 at Goodison Park in the second gameweek of the Premier League season.
Richarlison and Theo Walcott netted for Everton, while Danny Ings was on hand to net his first Southampton goal.
