Elyounoussi and Vestergaard could return for Leicester clash

Southampton are set to be boosted by the return of Mohamed Elyounoussi and Jannik Vestergaard for their fixture against Leicester City this weekend.

Saints boss Mark Hughes is set to head into the game with a full bill of health, with Stuart Armstrong having also fully recovered from a calf injury that limited him to a cameo appearance against Everton on Saturday.

Elyounoussi sat out of the visit to Goodison Park after he felt tightness in his hamstring after his Premier League debut against Burnley on the opening weekend.

However, it seems the Norwegian international could be in contention for the game against Leicester. As quoted by the club’s official website, Hughes delivered an update on Elyounoussi’s fitness.

We’re doing ok in terms of the group itself. It’s pretty well intact. Moi Elyounoussi has trained today (Thursday), so we’re hopeful he could be an option for us at the weekend.

We don’t anticipate he will have any problem. We’ve actually been quite careful with him because he’s coming into a new environment and a new way of training probably, so that can have an effect, so we’ve been quite careful, but we think he’s ready to be integrated back into the group.

Vestergaard, meanwhile, was deemed unavailable for the Everton defeat as a result of illness. The Danish international travelled up to Merseyside for the fixture but was unable to feature.

Nevertheless, the £18m summer signing will be at Hughes’ disposal for this weekend’s fixture.

Jannik’s ok. He was just 24 hours away really. By Monday he was perfectly free from the virus that he had and he’s had a good week.
