Mark Hughes impressed with “sharp” Danny Ings
Mark Hughes has revealed that he is pleased with the start that Danny Ings has made to his Southampton career, according to a report on the official club website.
The Englishman managed to find the back of the net for his first goal for the club at Goodison Park as the Saints fell to a 2-1 defeat against Everton on Saturday.
Ings was a constant danger to the Everton backline and could have got on the scoresheet in the first half, only to be denied by a fantastic save from Jordan Pickford from point blank range.
However, Hughes has been encouraged by the performances of Ings and hopes that he will score plenty more goals throughout the season.
Hughes said:
Danny looked sharp and could have scored in the first half but it’s actually a fantastic save having seen it since. I thought it was just a close-range miss but he’s actually saved it so credit to their keeper.
We got him off and running in the second-half so for him coming to a new club, as a striker you want to get off the mark very, very quickly and that’s what he has done so that’s a positive.
The forward completed his move to the Saints in an attempt to rediscover his goalscoring form and he certainly looks like he’s doing just that so far for the Saints.
