Southampton defender Alfie Jones has joined St. Mirren on a season-long loan.
As confirmed by the official Southampton website, the 20-year-old will spend the entire 2018/19 campaign on loan in Scotland.
It looks like the defender certainly has a future at St. Mary’s as he was awarded a two-year contract extension just a couple of weeks ago, one which sees him tied to the club until the end of the 2020/21 season.
Jones, who has captained the Southampton’s Under-23s side in recent games, will get the chance to develop by playing regular football under former Everton and Celtic centre-back Alan Stubbs.
St. Mirren will be looking to stay in the Scottish Premiership this season after earning promotion by winning the the Scottish Championship last year and they’ll be hoping that Jones can come in and help them achieve their aim.
Stubbs has confirmed that Jones will go straight into his squad for Saturday’s League Cup visit to Aberdeen.
