Southampton are now believed to be asking for a fee in the region of £20 million from Fulham to sign Matt Targett.
According to reports from TEAMtalk, Fulham lodged an improved bid to sign the defender yesterday, but the Saints are doing their best to keep the player at the club.
Fulham are looking to strengthen defensively and have set their sights on deals for both Targett and Bristol City’s Joe Bryan, despite the latter previously having a medical with Aston Villa.
Targett has been heavily linked with a permanent switch to Craven Cottage after playing a big role in their promotion to the top flight.
The defender has since been involved in Southampton’s pre-seaosn preparations and could now look to break into Mark Hughes’ side going forward.
Southampton appear keen to keep hold of the player and will hope that the increased asking price will deter any interest from the Premier League new boys before the window closes.
