Napoli are ready to step up their interest in Lille defender Kevin Malcuit following the emergence of Southampton as potential suitors for the player, according to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio.
The right-back was linked with a move to Southampton on Thursday evening, with reports indicating that the Saints had moved ahead of Napoli in the race for his signature.
Southampton are understood to have considered a move to sign a right-back this summer as they look to provide Cedric Soares with viable competition, following the departure of Jeremy Pied.

Malcuit has seemingly emerged as a target for Mark Hughes’ side, but they will not be able to land the Frenchman without significant competition from Napoli, according to Di Marzio.
Napoli are on the lookout, also, for a new right-back as Carlo Ancelotti looks to provide Elseid Hysaj with competition for his place in the starting line-up at the Stadio San Paolo.
It’s now stated that the Serie A giants have turned their attention away from Manchester United man Matteo Darmian to focus their efforts on a move for former Saint-Etienne star Malcuit.
