Guido Carrillo reportedly set for Leganes switch

Southampton striker Guido Carrillo could be set to reunite with Mauricio Pellegrino at Leganes.

The Argentine forward joined Saints for a club-record fee of £19 million in the January transfer window but has since failed to score, leading Mark Hughes to deem him as surplus to requirements ahead of next season.

Carrillo, along with £16m addition Sofiane Boufal, was excluded from Hughes’ squad for Saints’ pre-season tour of China, which will see them play Schalke and Jiangsu Suning.

It seems Carrillo’s nightmare tenure on the south coast could be set to end, however. According to an exclusive report from Spanish-based news outlet Fichajes, a move to Leganes is likely to be completed in the near future.

The La Liga side are under new management ahead of next season, with departed Saints manager Pellegrino having been recently appointed as their new first-team boss.

A reunion with Carrillo now appears to be a likely outcome, as Pellegrino looks to sign the player for the second time in seven months.

It’s likely that the deal will be completed on a temporary basis initially, as Saints look to offload Carrillo for the upcoming season.
