Hughes excited by Elyounoussi arrival

Southampton boss Mark Hughes has spoken of his excitement following the arrival of Mohamed Elyounoussi.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Hughes praised the player after he completed a £16 million move to Southampton.

Mohamed is clearly another very exciting addition to our attacking options. He has got an outstanding record of goals and assists in two different countries, and we have been extremely impressed by the intelligence he has shown in his play from a tactical point of view.

The 23-year-old, who was highly rated at Basel, joins the club on a five-year deal.

Elyounoussi has been one of best performances in the Swiss league over recent years and has Champions League experience under his belt.

Hughes is hoping to bring the best out of the creative winger during his time in the Premier League.

He’s still at a young age as well, so we’re confident he can continue to improve and fulfil even more of his potential with us, and, following on from the arrival of Stuart Armstrong this week, we feel we have made real progress in adding a new dimension to our attack ahead of the season.

The winger joins Southampton after two impressive seasons with Basel that saw him find the back of the net on 23 occasions.

The Norwegian international follows Stuart Armstrong through the doors at St Mary’s as Southampton continue their summer transfer business.
