The Saints have been linked with a move for the Scottish international for the best part of two years now and it seems they are progressing in their efforts to sign him.

Armstrong is reportedly being allowed to leave Celtic for a fee in the region of £7 million this summer, and Southampton have jumped to the front of the queue in the race to secure his services, with the player keen on the switch.
The midfielder has only one more year left on his deal with Brendan Rodgers’ side and pastures new await, with Southampton seemingly closing in on a deal.
Macintyre claims that Armstrong now has permission to discuss a move to St Mary’s Stadium in the imminent future, as Southampton look to add their first summer signing.
