Southampton are reportedly keen to keep hold of Matt Targett this summer, despite Fulham’s efforts to land him on a permanent deal.
The former England Under-21 international joined the Cottagers on loan until the end of the season in January and was a key player for Slavisa Jokanovic’s men, as he helped them secure promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.
Targett inevitably emerged as a top summer target for Fulham but according to an exclusive report from TEAMtalk, the Whites have begun to search for alternatives, with Saints’ board looking to keep hold of their academy graduate.

It’s believed that Southampton will allow Sam McQueen to leave the club this summer, with Bristol City interested in replacing Joe Bryan with the youngster.
Targett’s form at Craven Cottage in the second half of last season appears to have convinced Saints’ chiefs of his qualities, with the club looking to retain his services for the foreseeable future.
Fulham have reportedly identified Swedish international Ludwig Augustinsson as an alternative to Targett.
