Sofiane Boufal has suffered late heartbreak ahead of the World Cup this summer, with Morocco excluding him from their 23-man squad for the tournament in Russia next month.

Boufal has endured a testing past couple of months having been exiled from Saints’ first-team plans and banished to training with the Under-23 side. This came after a dispute was revealed between him and interim Southampton boss Mark Hughes.
The Southampton attacker was once a prominent feature in the Morocco squad but after a torrid season in England, he has been dropped from international contention.

Morocco announced their 23-man squad on Thursday with no sign of Boufal, inflicting further damage on the former Lille man’s reputation.
Boufal confirmed earlier on in the week to the French media that he is keen to leave St Mary’s Stadium this summer and it appears as though he is intent on returning to Ligue 1.
The winger is not named in Morocco’s standby list, either, indicating that there is no chance of him jetting off to Russia with his fellow countrymen in June.
