Southampton are looking at a summer swoop for Celta Vigo’s Pione Sisto, according to the Mail Online.
The winger is being touted as a replacement for Sofiane Boufal, who looks set to leave St Mary’s this summer following a bust-up with manager Mark Hughes that saw him training with the under 23 side at the end of the season.
Sisto has been impressive in La Liga, his five goals and nine assists have helped Celta to mid-table, although interest in him means his future is unlikely to be there.
The 23-year-old has been named in Denmark’s provisional World Cup squad and is almost a certainty to go to Russia, with 12 caps to his name so far.
It is expected Hughes will remain Saints manager for the forthcoming season, and a move for Sisto would help him freshen up the squad up after a pretty dismal season.
There is a £36 million release clause in Sisto’s contract, and whilst Southampton are unlikely to to pay that much, they may want to get in early with to do a deal, because a good World Cup could see him on the radar of other clubs.
