Southampton will take on Bundesliga giants FC Schalke 04 and Chinese Super League side Jiangsu Suning during their pre-season tour this summer, according to claims from China.

The Saints’ plans to travel to East Asia were revealed last month and it seems their friendly matches have been organised ahead of July.

Following the takeover of the club from Gao Jisheng last year, it appears as though efforts are being made from the top brass at Saints’ to widen the club’s fanbase and exposure in China, with the pre-season tour evidently planned with this in mind.

Saints’ clash against Schalke is sure to attract attention, with Domenico Tedesco’s side having enjoyed a superb season in the Bundesliga, finishing in 2nd place behind Bayern Munich.

Jiangsu Suning, meanwhile, are currently sat in 4th place on the Chinese Super League table.
