Steven Davis ruled out of Chelsea clash
Southampton midfielder Steven Davis will miss his side’s clash with Chelsea this Saturday due to an injury.
As quoted by the club’s official website, Saints boss Mark Hughes told reporters at Staplewood that Davis will be the only absentee from his squad for the game against Chelsea at St Mary’s Stadium.
Davis has been sidelined since February due to a hamstring problem but was due to return to the 18-man squad for last weekend’s visit to Arsenal.
However, on the Saturday before the game, he sustained yet another injury blow and this has seen him declared as unavailable for Saints’ game against the Blues this weekend.
We hoped that Steven was going to be available last weekend. He had a late fitness test on the Saturday but unfortunately he hasn’t progressed at any kind of rate so he hasn’t been back with the group yet.
Davis has been a bit-part player for Southampton this season but remains the club’s captain. It was also reported by BBC Radio Solent’s Adam Blackmore on Twitter that Hughes was set to hand the Northern Ireland captain a starting berth at the Emirates last Sunday.

Southampton are well-stocked in midfield, therefore Davis’ absence shouldn’t come as too great a blow.
