Stoke prepared to make move for McCarthy
Stoke City are prepared to make a move for Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy if they lose Jack Butland.
According to The Mirror, via HITC, Stoke are concerned that Butland will leave them this summer and are starting to eye up potential replacements.
McCarthy is seen as a viable option to join Stoke, with his Southampton contract expiring at the end of next season.
This is despite him currently being Southampton’s number one goalkeeper. He dislodged Fraser Forster from the number one jersey and has started the last ten Premier League matches.
However, he may be replaced in the summer by Southampton if they stay up, which would allow Stoke to move in and sign the one-time England international.
Jack Butland is said to be closing in on a £40m move to Liverpool, which will also give Stoke the funds to tempt Southampton into letting him go ahead of next season.
