Southampton are set to be without one of their most important players this weekend, after Portuguese defender Cedric Soares was ruled out of the trip along the coast to Bournemouth.
Mauricio Pellegrino, as quoted by the club’s official website, stated that Cedric will miss the short journey to Bournemouth this weekend.
Cédric will not be ready for Sunday, and Shane Long has got an issue in his calf. So we’ve got some players with a problem today.
The Saints also have doubts over Shane Long, who is nursing a calf injury and is facing a late fitness test to decide if he can feature against Bournemouth after coming through 83 minutes in the week against Manchester City.

Maybe tomorrow we’ll review, and we’ll decide how he [Long] is. The doctor will check, but today he couldn’t train, it is a little bit sore in the calf. Tomorrow (Saturday) we’ll make a decision.
Cedric suffered a hamstring injury at the Etihad and also had his arm badly cut as a result of a stamp.
Matt Targett also remains out injured with a lower-leg injury, which has seen him miss the past couple of weeks. Although, this is a position where Saints have cover in Ryan Bertrand and Sam McQueen.
With Cedric ruled out for the trip, it looks as though it could provide Jeremy Pied with his first game in the league this season.
