Southampton striker Shane Long has suffered a hip injury, according to the BBC.

The experienced forward is currently away on international duty with his Republic of Ireland side, but he will not be available for their final clash of the World Cup qualifying stages. Martin O’Neill’s men visit Wales on Monday night in a huge game for both sides.

Long played for the majority of Republic of Ireland’s win over Moldova on Friday evening, and despite helping his side win 2-0, spurned numerous good chances.

However, he will not be available in the game against Wales as he nurses a hip problem.

Long has started Southampton’s last three matches but is yet to find the net this season. The 30-year-old hasn’t scored a goal for Saints since February and will be keen to put this hip injury behind him to regain form at club level.
