Southampton centre-back Virgil van Dijk says he does not regret his actions over the summer and suggested that he could still look to leave the club in January.

Speaking to Fox Sports as he joined up with his national team for their final two World Cup qualifiers, Van Dijk said of his summer transfer window experience.

I have no regrets. Of course, I wanted to go one step up [in the summer], but eventually Southampton did not want to let me go.

Van Dijk made it known to Southampton that he wished to leave the club and a move to Liverpool seemed imminent before the Saints refused to let the star defender go anywhere.

He continued:

I’m a professional, so now I’ll give everything to the club. Halfway through the season, maybe we can see what’s possible.

Van Dijk returned to the Southampton fold at the weekend but looked sluggish as the Saints lost 2-1 away to Stoke City.

That performance, coupled with these comments, could see plenty of Saints fans questioning the mentality of their star defender.
