Southampton’s young midfielder James Ward-Prowse has been speaking to the media about the new system that manager Claude Puel has implemented in recent matches.

The England Under-21 international applauded the change, mentioning the new system in his praise of Southampton’s 4-3 victory against Watford at Vicarage Road. Ward-Prowse was quoted by the Saints’ official website saying:

Every system is different but this has worked in the last few games and everyone’s enjoyed it. It’s something that has been done to help the team improve and we’ve shown it to be the correct decision with the amount of goals we’ve scored.

It was the perfect way to bounce back. Everyone was disappointed with the result last week and we used that as a springboard to put things right.

The young Englishman talked highly of the result, saying that the performance was the perfect way to bounce back after the heartbreak of the League Cup final. Southampton have had an impressive run in the Premier League recently, scoring four goals in consecutive matches. This is a feat that hasn’t been replicated for the Saints since the FA Cup winning side in 1976.

Ward-Prowse has been playing on the right-hand side of the attacking trio behind Manolo Gabbiadini, who has been in red hot form having scored a hugely impressive six goals in his first four games in English football.
