Southampton are still reportedly holding an interest in Lazio’s young left-back Jordan Lukaku, who they were linked with in the summer, but they face competition from Tottenham Hotspur.
In the printed version of Italian news publication Il Messaggero, as reported via Sport Witness this evening, Saints are claimed to be seriously looking to make their move for the young Belgium international in the near future.
Lukaku is the younger brother of Romelu, the Everton forward, and has been tipped for a big future after impressing in the early stages of his career so far.
The 21-year-old defender only joined Lazio in the summer, so a move could be unlikely. However, Lukaku has made just three Serie A appearances so far this season, so it wouldn’t be too great a loss for the Italian side in the short-term.
Contrary to the report though, it could be assumed that neither Saints or Spurs are in need of any left-backs, given that they are both well equipped in that position.
