Southampton youngster Josh Sims has spoken of his desire to feature in the senior side in the near future, the Daily Echo can report.
The first-team staff always watch our games which is good for us, it shows the manager cares.
The young winger is a regular fixture in The Saints’ Under-23 side and helped them to a convincing 4-0 win over Crawley last night in the Checkatrade Trophy; a victory that sent Martin Hunter’s side into the next round against Reading. Sims assisted all four of the goals on the night.
You block that out but you know that if you perform you’re going to get a chance. He (Claude Puel) is always around the training ground and I’ve trained a couple of times with them.
However, Sims is yet to feature for Saints at a first-team level, so this is a milestone that he’ll look to progress to for the remainder of the season.
Saints boss Claude Puel is largely renowned for developing and nurturing the younger players at the clubs he’s been with and Sims will be hoping that he can have the same fortune as many have before under the Frenchman.
I’ve just got to continue my performances and if I impress my chance will come.
The wide man will hope to carry on his impressive form.
