England captain Harry Brook hit an unbeaten 42-ball century to help his side record a commanding 119-run victory over Sri Lanka at the Utilita Bowl.
The 27-year-old finished on 114 alongside Jos Buttler, who hit 80 while the visitors were opening their T20 tour.
Their destructive 128-run second-wicket partnership echoed a similar tactical dominance at the Hampshire venue.
Brook and Buttler previously dismantled the Indian bowling attack with a 233-run stand at the stadium in July.
The hosts posted an imposing 254-4, swiftly regaining momentum after they handed a first international appearance to Aneurin Donald.
Stokes Praises Raw Batting Talent
Former Test captain Ben Stokes monitored the performance and compared his teammate favourably to white-ball mentor Kevin Pietersen.
According to The Independent, Stokes stated: “I don’t even think the genius of KP (Pietersen) could come close to what Harry Brook has talent-wise,”
Stokes added: “You are an absolute freak, Harry. You’re mint to watch.”
Brook welcomed Pietersen’s recent arrival within the international setup.
Speaking to cricket.com.au, Brook said: “Obviously we haven’t had too much time together so far but he’s a great figure to have in the changing room; the type of player he was, he looked at batting slightly differently, in a similar way to me as well,”
Hampshire fast bowler Sonny Baker capitalised on the immense scoreboard pressure during the run chase.
The paceman claimed superb figures of 3-12 from four overs on his home pitch to help dismiss the visitors for 135.
England will aim to secure the series when they face Sri Lanka in Cardiff on Thursday.
