Mads Roerslev Stakes Claim For First Team Return With Academy Goal

Southampton defender Mads Roerslev stepped down to the under-21s and scored during a convincing 3-1 Premier League 2 victory over AFC Bournemouth.

The Danish full-back is yet to feature in a matchday squad for manager Tonda Eckert this season. He played until the hour mark in the academy fixture, finding the net to restore a two-goal advantage just before half-time. This professional display places immediate pressure on defensive selections ahead of upcoming senior matches.

Setting A Fast Early Tempo

Sufianu Sillah Dibaga opened the scoring after 11 minutes with a precise curled finish. Romeo Akachukwu added a second shortly after following a rapid counter-attack. Both early strikes highlighted the attacking intent Eckert demands when he prepares the senior side.

Ethan Sills temporarily reduced the deficit with a penalty after goalkeeper Dylan Moody conceded a foul. Roerslev answered moments later, forcing the ball home from close range following a deep cross. Visiting defender Ade Solanke then received a red card in stoppage time, ending any prospect of a late comeback.

Maintaining The Strong Start

The development team now sit level on seven points at the top of the table. Their strong form echoes the confident momentum built by the women’s statement opening victory earlier this month. Eckert must now decide whether to reintegrate the goalscoring defender for Saturday’s Championship trip to Wrexham.
