Eckert as Southampton Delay Jander Return for Wrexham

Southampton midfielder Caspar Jander will miss Saturday’s Championship match against Bristol City as his recovery from a pre-season quad injury continues.

The 23-year-old German has yet to feature this season. Manager Tonda Eckert had initially hoped to integrate him sooner.

Speaking to the Daily Echo, Eckert confirmed the timeline. “For Caspar it will be too early tomorrow,” Eckert said.

Targeting The Wrexham Fixture

The coaching staff are now aiming for Jander to make his first appearance against Wrexham. This fixture precedes the upcoming international break.

“We’re going to push, so hopefully it will be some minutes against Wrexham. We have to delay it a little bit but I think he’s on his way now,” Eckert added.

Jander made 43 appearances during the previous campaign. His eventual return creates an intriguing selection dynamic in midfield.

James Ward-Prowse recently secured a starting role alongside captain Flynn Downes. The pairing excelled in Tuesday’s 3-1 victory over Swansea City.

Clean Bill Of Health

Southampton host Bristol City at St. Mary’s Stadium. They are looking to extend an unbeaten run of five league matches.

The squad emerged unscathed from their recent midweek duties. This avoids the intense scrutiny over late substitutions seen earlier this month.

Eckert dismissed any fresh fitness concerns. “Nothing from the midweek game,” Eckert said.

Jander will continue his tailored rehabilitation before the trip to Wales.
