Eckert weighs up Saints predicted team after Lincoln draw

Southampton manager Tonda Eckert is weighing up a midfield system change to combat unbeaten Swansea City at St Mary’s on Tuesday night. The Saints dropped points in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Lincoln City after late substitutions invited pressure. Moving to a three-man defence at Sincil Bank disrupted momentum, leading the Daily Echo’s Dan Hargraves to note they “rode their luck far too many times and eventually it cost them.”

Adapting The Midfield Shape

Eckert must now respond to a dangerous pressing unit managed by Vitor Matos. With Caspar Jander sidelined by injury, a reinforced central trio appears likely. Cameron Bragg could start alongside Flynn Downes and James Ward-Prowse to restore dominance. Ward-Prowse impressed individually on Saturday, notching six key passes after securing a full league start for the visitors.

Solving Defensive Selection Dilemmas

Daniel Peretz retains his place in goal as he seeks a first clean sheet of the campaign. In defence, Nathan Wood is expected to replace Jack Stephens alongside Keven Schlotterbeck. Eckert also faces a tough call at left-back. Welington opened the scoring with a brilliant first-half strike against Lincoln, but Ryan Manning is available again following a rest. In attack, Finn Azaz should continue supplying Leonardo Weschenfelder-Scienza and Cyle Larin. The Saints boast an exceptional home record under Eckert, picking up more Championship points at St Mary’s than any rival since November 2025.
