Southampton FC Women goalkeeper Alina Santos is preparing to make her WSL 2 debut against Durham following a summer transfer from the University of Denver.
The New Zealand international arrives with elite collegiate statistics. She recorded a formidable .828 save percentage during her final American campaign. Her standout performances earned her senior international caps and a place in the squad that successfully secured World Cup qualification.
Familiar Faces Aid Squad Integration
The 22-year-old settled quickly into her new south coast surroundings, aided by existing working relationships. Santos previously trained alongside former Saints goalkeeping coach Will Britt while on international duty.
Just as Tonda Eckert prepares Saints for their upcoming men’s fixtures, the women’s setup is demanding exceptionally high standards across the board. The club holds clear promotion ambitions after achieving a fifth-place league finish last term.
Santos believes the current squad possesses the necessary quality to challenge at the top. “I think we’re going to turn some heads this season and do a lot better than a lot of people might think,” she said.
The new arrival currently shares accommodation with four teammates, which has accelerated her adaptation to English football. “I feel like this is a great environment for me to grow as a player and as a person as well,” Santos added.
Southampton begin their WSL 2 schedule with a long away trip to face Durham on Sunday.
