Ward-Prowse Starts As Eckert Names Southampton Team

Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse will start Saturday’s match against Lincoln City as Tonda Eckert prepares his Saints predicted team for a deeply physical encounter.

The newly promoted hosts currently boast the most direct long-ball approach in the Championship alongside a rigid five-man defensive block.

Ward-Prowse is expected to partner Flynn Downes in the centre of the pitch to provide vital tactical control.

New Signing Travels To Sincil Bank

Nottingham Forest loanee Zach Abbott has officially joined the travelling squad following his deadline-day arrival.

The young defender immediately caught the eye during training sessions on the South Coast.

“He’s going to be travelling with us,” Eckert confirmed.

“The impression [he made] on pitch was good yesterday, he’s in good shape and then we’ll see how we’re going to integrate him over the next few weeks.”

The situation is less positive for Caspar Jander. The manager revealed the midfielder is facing further delays to his return.

“Elsewhere, midfielder Caspar Jander has suffered a minor setback with his comeback from injury that has ruled him out since the start of pre-season,” Eckert added.

“Always hoping to have him around for the upcoming game or the game after, but now it might be a little but after but we’re still pushing.”

Canadian forward Cyle Larin is tipped to lead the attack after scoring seven times in his last seven league appearances.

Southampton must master the second balls to break down the resilient home defence.
