Southampton rejected three offers for Sofiane Boufal in the summer

Sofiane Boufal’s agent has revealed that a plethora of clubs across Europe tried to sign his client from Southampton in the summer transfer window.

The Moroccan international endured a somewhat underwhelming first season on the south coast, and struggled to maintain both form and fitness in the Premier League.

He has also struggled to find opportunities for Saints under Mauricio Pellegrino this season, starting just one top flight game. However, he has impressed on occasions, and netted a decisive solo goal against West Brom recently.

In an interview with French media outlet SFR Sport, Boufal’s agent revealed offers from Serie A duo Fiorentina and Inter Milan, and also stated that La Liga side Celta Vigo were keen on the winger.

He feels great. He’s just waiting for more game time. You know, he didn’t start August as a first-team player, and we had clubs like Inter Milan, Celta Vigo and Fiorentina, clubs who know what they’re doing when it comes to signing players, who wanted him at all costs.

However, along with heaping the praise on his client, Boufal’s representative did also state that Saints were not prepared to let their £16 million signing go after just one season at the club.

Southampton said no, even if they weren’t playing him, and over the past three games, Sofiane is showing that he’s the one who’s winning them points.

Boufal will now hope to nail down a regular place in Saints’ starting line-up.
