Puel bemused by speculation regarding his future

Southampton manager Claude Puel has insisted that he is surprised by the recent speculation regarding his future at the club.

The Frenchman addressed the press today as he previewed Saints’ trip to Anfield on Sunday and was quizzed about recent talk surrounding his long-term future at St Mary’s.

Puel has come under fire in the last few weeks as Saints continue to slump in form. If the south coast side fail to beat Liverpool at the weekend, they’ll have gone four Premier League games without a victory.

The former Nice manager, as quoted by the BBC, was adamant that his job is not under threat and insisted that he joined Southampton to carry out a long-term project.

It’s important to finish with good concentration in the last games. I’m surprised to see speculation about my future. For me it’s been an interesting season with many games. We also got to the final of the EFL Cup.

It’s sure to be a big end to the season for Puel and his Southampton side, with them targeting a top eight finish. However, they must be wary of those below them, with Saints in danger of slipping down the table to 16th.

I came here for a project, to continue this work and improve the young players.
