Virals: New Saints Signing Romain Perraud Flaunted

Southampton fans were treated to the sight of new signing Romain Perraud for the first time during his pre-season cameo in Southampton’s 1-1 draw with Fulham.

Perraud’s arrival off the back of an impressive spell with Ligue 1 side Stade Brestois has been a highlight of Southampton’s transfer window to date, with the left-back filling the void left by the departure of Ryan Bertrand.

The 23-year-old has penned a four-year deal at St Mary’s, becoming Ralph Hasenhuttl’s second signing after Theo Walcott’s loan move was made permanent last month.

Prior to pre-season, Ralph Hasenhuttl hailed the timely acquisition ahead of the new campaign’s preparations with the Austrian boss discussing how his arrival ensures an opportune moment for him to sharpen his skills and gel with the squad.

“Completing the transfer before the start of pre-season allows him to start training with us immediately, learning our way of playing and tactical behaviours”, commented Hasenhuttl [via The Athletic].

“I think Romain will fit in well with us and we can help him develop his game further and maximise his potential.”

The Saints’ official Twitter handle flaunted their new man in action for the first time, with Perraud featuring for the first forty-five minutes.

No defender provided more assists in last season’s Ligue 1 campaign than Perraud in a fine testament to his offensive acumen.

With a penchant for bombing up the pitch with a view to contributing to attacking phases of play, he cuts the mould of a dynamic wing-back that possesses well-honed link-up abilities – one that has every reason to excite ahead of the new campaign as a result.
