Former England coach Fabio Capello has taken a swipe at Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl after he broke down in tears upon the final whistle in Monday’s 1-0 victory over Liverpool.
The Austrian dropped to his knees at the final whistle as his side were confirmed as victors over the reigning Premier League champions. However, legendary Italian coach Capello has criticised the emotional outburst in an interview with Sky Sport Italia.
The 74-year-old fumed: ”I don’t understand this sort of thing, he was working, a bit of emotion is fine in these situations, but this was completely over the top. Why on earth would you start crying?”
Hasenhuttl explained his reaction after the match was due to it being the first time one of his teams had taken points from a Jurgen Klopp side.
The Saints boss has performed a miracle with his side since the 53-year-old’s position looked under serious threat following last season’s embarrassing 9-0 home defeat at the hands of Leicester City, taking them from a relegation battle to a genuine tilt at a Champions League place in little more than a year.

It’s a rather bemusing dig from Capello but it’s good to see that the Saints, and Hasenhuttl in particular, are making waves on the continent.
The manager’s outpouring of emotion was refreshing to see, proof if it was needed about how much the manager cares about the job at hand.
After last season’s troubles and that demoralising October 2019 night at St Mary’s, the Austrian has transformed Southampton’s fortunes and there could be yet more tears of joy to come if he can guide the Saints to Europe.
