Steven Gerrard’s Rangers thrashed Hamilton Academical 8-0 at Ibrox on Sunday afternoon, with a Southampton scout in attendance.
Former Rangers star Ally McCoist, who was also present at Ibrox, confirmed the news as the dominant victory ensured the Glasgow giants regained their nine-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership over rivals Celtic.
On talkSPORT, cited by the Daily Record, McCoist confirmed he spoke with a Saints scout at Ibrox on Sunday afternoon.
I was at the Rangers game yesterday and I was actually chatting to a lad behind me who was one of Southampton’s scouts.

Southampton scouts may have been at Ibrox to watch central midfielder Glen Kamara, with whom the Saints have been linked in recent months. However, the Finland international was an unused substitute for the league leaders.
Instead, one player who did stand outin the heart of the midfield was Joe Aribo. The former Charlton Athletic man scored twice, provided one key pass and ended with a WhoScored rating of 9.92.
Saints officials may have gone to watch Kamara, but coming away from Ibrox, they surely would’ve been impressed with Aribo’s display.
