Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has hinted that his club will look to sell Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer if the midfielder chooses not to extend his contract.
The Danish star is a reported summer target for Tottenham and Spurs could get a boost from this news as it looks like the player will be available as Saints will not want to lose him for free in 2021.
Hasenhuttl, speaking to BBC Radio Solent said:
I think we should avoid letting players go without a transfer fee… so it’s not good to go into a last year with only a one-year contract, especially when you are a young player with a big future. So, this is not an ideal situation.

Hasenhuttl’s comments seem to make it perfectly clear that Southampton are very unwilling to lose players on a free transfer, so any players who are about to enter the final years of their contract, like Hojbjerg, could be on their way this summer.
However, making this policy common knowledge could back Saints into a corner when it comes to transfer fees as clubs, like Tottenham, can now play hardball knowing that Southampton are unwilling to let a player enter the final year of his deal.
