AZ Alkmaar manager Arne Slot has confirmed that he has spoken to Southampton midfielder Jordy Clasie about a return to the Netherlands.
The 27-year old appears surplus to requirements under manager Ralph Hasenhuttl, and with his contract set to expire next summer, the Saints are willing to cash in on the Netherlands international.
Earlier this week, AZ’s director Max Huiberts confirmed that there had been contact between Slot and Clasie, claiming that all parties would need to ‘wait and see’ how the situation would develop.

Now, as reported by Sport Witness, the Dutch coach has personally confirmed that he has held talks with Clasie over a potential move to the AFAS Stadion this summer.
Reported by VI in the Netherlands, Slot spoke about Clasie in a press conference, saying:
Jordy is enthusiastic (about a move to AZ) and it’s now up to Max Huiberts to sort things out with him and Southampton.
I spoke to Jordy about what his role in the team could be. He’s good on the ball, good at passing, and he’s what we’re looking for at that position.
