The 2016/17 Premier League season has finished with almost a sigh of relief ringing out amongst Southampton fans – a campaign that has somewhat stagnated Saints’ progress in the top flight and possibly one that can be considered to be of transition.
With the first experience of Europa League group stages adding to an already tight schedule, rotation has been perhaps the downfall of Saints’ season. One thing that therefore leads on is do Southampton have enough strength in depth?
A few players have not stepped up to the task when called upon and, in my opinion, we could do with replacing them to improve the quality of the squad.
It may or may not be Claude Puel assessing the squad this summer, but either way, whoever is in charge come the start of the 17/18 season is certainly going to need to change some aspects.
I’ve created a five-man shortlist of players I would like to see join the club and believe to be realistic signings.
