Saints captain and goalscorer Jose Fonte has spoken of his unhappiness that Southampton could not seal a victory against Leicester on Saturday.
The Portuguese international told saintsfc.co.uk that losing a two-nil lead at home is totally unacceptable.
“When we’re two-nil up at home, we can never concede two goals – as good as they can be, you should never concede two goals.”
He says that Southampton were aware that Leicester have a knack for getting back into games and scoring late goals, and praised the Foxes work rate to steal a draw at Saint Mary’s
“It’s not that we weren’t aware of Leicester’s [record of] coming back late in games because we spoke about it before the game. They never give up and they keep going until the end, so we needed to see the game out.”
The centre-back signed a new contract on Friday, and marked that with his first goal since February last year. During the international break, he and team-mate Cedric Soares helped Portugal secure qualification for Euro 2016.
Fonte has played every minute of every game for Southampton so far this season, and his goal at the weekend was one of only 14 he has scored during his five years at Southampton.
Southampton will be hoping to secure a better result when they face Liverpool at Anfield next week.
