Liverpool are waiting for Southampton to alter their current stance on Virgil van Dijk before lodging an official offer for him, according to the Daily Mail this evening.
The Dutchman is currently training on his own away from the Saints squad, having informed new manager Mauricio Pellegrino of his wish to join Liverpool, along with making himself unavailable for the upcoming pre-season matches.

Van Dijk is a prime target for the Reds this summer and although an official transfer request has not yet been submitted, it goes without saying that the Netherlands international is keen to secure a move to Anfield.
It’s claimed in the report that since Liverpool’s public apology to Southampton over the allegations of tapping up, the two clubs have been in contact, as bridges look to rebuilt from the Reds’ side.
Saints have stood strong up to now, insisting that Van Dijk is not up for sale, which therefore keeps the ball in their court.
