According to The Daily Mail, Southampton are in talks with newly-relegated Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart regarding a potential summer move for their highly rated Serbian international Filip Kostic.
The Stuttgart winger scored five goals last season for his club, as his side finished in a highly disappointing 17th place in the Bundesliga table. This meant that Stuttgart were relegated from the Bundesliga for the first time in 41 years and will now play their games in the second Bundesliga; a considerably underwhelming prospect for Kostic.
With this news, Kostic could be one of the players to leave the club. Teams are always bound to lose some of their best players when they are relegated and this could apply to Kostic at Stuttgart as interest intensifies from elsewhere.
The 23-year-old is unlikely to want to play in the second-tier of German football, so could seek a move this summer to a club with more prowess at the moment and Saints could fit the bill after securing European football ahead of next season.
However, he is valued at £12 million by his club, meaning that Southampton will need to fork out a fee near this figure to secure his services this summer. Kostic has rejected a new contract at Stuttgart but is still contracted for another three seasons.
The Serbian can play all across the attacking midfield and on either wing if necessary.
