Southampton Star Danny Ings Speaks Out on Transfer Rumours

Southampton fans will be all-too-familiar with the precarious contract situation of star striker Danny Ings – and the hitman has spoken out on the transfer rumours bandying his name around.

Danny Ings has been linked with a host of clubs in recent months, including Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, with Ings’ present Saints deal set to expire in 2022.

Speaking to talkSPORT [via the Metro], the talismanic marksman said of his future:

‘I’ve got a contract until the summer of 2022.

‘I haven’t really acknowledged them [transfer rumours]. I’ve just been focused on each game.

‘Ultimately, I’ve still got a contract here.

‘My main focus is to finish the season strong.’

Ings has contributed heavily to the Saints’ season with 12 goals and 4 assists, helping Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side immensely in buoying his side to Premier League safety.

A 3-cap England international, many suitors reportedly view the 28-year-old as a cheaper striker alternative with Manchester United seeing him as a more cost-effective alternative to the likes of Harry Kane and Erling Haaland.

Given his proven ability to impact games in the league, it is no surprise that some of the country’s biggest sides are exhibiting an interest in acquiring Ings’ services.

His response on his Saints future was non-committal and expresses a tone of apathy – something sure to only add fuel to a mounting fire of rumour and speculation.

Although his career has been consistently bedevilled by injuries in recent years, his tendency to press makes him a viable all-action presence in the Saints’ front line.

The ex-Liverpool forward may feel ready for a new challenge, but is offering little in the way of certainty at this stage as he plays his cards close to his chest.
