Southampton duo Stuart Armstrong and Che Adams earned plenty of plaudits for being called up for Scotland’s Euro 2020 squad.
The competition recently saw the squad list expanded to twenty-six, leaving ample room for the Saints duo to make the grade.
Southampton winger Armstrong, 29, is a 24-cap international with two goals for his country with the ex-Celtic attacker joined by Saints striker Adams.
Former England youth international Adams is a newer arrival to Scotland’s international frame, having switched allegiances to Scotland ahead of the Euros – though Adams has insisted the switch had nothing to do with the competition.
The 23-year-old turned down an earlier approach from Scotland in 2017, but his teammate Armstrong and Scotland manager Steve Clarke played a major role in persuading Adams to alter his decision.
Both men will be hoping to buoy Steve Clarke’s side following their qualification for the competition, which sees Scotland joined by fierce rivals England – along with Croatia and the Czech Republic – in Group D of the group stages.
The Saints duo headline Scotland’s attacking options, who also boast a wealth of Premier League stalwarts such as Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson and Scott McTominay of Manchester United.
With over 11,000 likes and 1800 retweets on Twitter, the news of the inclusion of the Saints duo was met with widespread jubilation. One Southampton fan noted the call-ups were ‘well deserved’ given the ‘pride and passion’ of both Saints attackers.
