Southampton are interested in making a renewed bid to try and sign in-demand Angers midfielder Angelo Fulgini, with the Saints having attempted to bring him to St Mary’s in January, per Le10 Sport.
The Saints have seen their midfield options stretched at times this season, with Oriol Romeu having had a spell out injured, while they are currently without Ibrahima Diallo through injury. James Ward-Prowse has also had to fill in at right-back at times due to the lack of depth in that area of the squad, too.
It has now emerged that the Saints had been interested in adding to their midfield options in the winter transfer window, with a move for Fulgini thought to have been considered. However, in the end they opted against making the move due to the £15m valuation being placed on the 24-year-old by Angers, per Le10 Sport.
Despite being knocked back in their efforts to sign him, Southampton are reportedly still interested in returning with an effort to land the midfielder in the summer. However, the Saints face strong competition for his signature, with Marseille also interested in the 24-year-old after they too had considered making a January bid to sign him, according to Le10 Sport.

This would be a potentially promising addition for the Saints, who have already had success with recruiting from Ligue 1 in the midfield position with the form of Diallo this season. Fulgini has been an impressive performer for Angers so far this term, having demonstrated his potential to influence things in the attacking third.
The midfielder has averaged an impressive 1.9 successful dribbles, 1.7 key passes and 1.2 shots per game in his 23 league appearances in the current campaign (Sofascore). He has produced more key passes per game than the influential Ward-Prowse has for the Saints (Sofascore), while the 24-year-old has also scored four goals and provided three assists for the Ligue 1 side. .
Southampton will need to make signings in the summer to boost their squad, but is it unknown what their budget will be. However, £15m seems like a reasonable amount of money to spend on Fulgini given the form he has displayed in recent months. It definitely feels like a move which is worth pursuing.
