Southampton take on Wolves in an all-Premier League clash in the FA Cup this evening, with both sides hopefully of progressing deep into the coveted cup competition.
A victory over Wolves would mean the Saints would be just one game from Wembley, with the quarter-finals in sight. However, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s team come into the clash having lost their last five league games, and they will be desperate to resume winning ways against Nuno Espirito Santo’s men.
Southampton fans will have to look all the way back to 1976 for the last time they won the oldest cup competition in world football, when an intrepid Saints side led by Lawrie McMenemy won the trophy. That final saw Manchester United toppled by a late Bobby Stokes goal at Wembley. To add further to the upset, Southampton were a division below United at the time.
