Southampton fans react to reported interest in Jozo Simunovic

Many Southampton fans have been reacting to reports from Goal Germany suggesting that the Saints are interested in making a potential move for former Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have endured a torrid time over the last few weeks with injuries, with the defence in particular being stretched by a knee problem for Jannik Vestergaard, which kept him out for seven successive league games before his return against Newcastle United. The Saints have also shipped 12 goals in their last two games, leading to reports that they are considering signing a defender.

Simunovic has been a free agent since being released by Celtic in the summer, with the 26-year-old having enjoyed a five-season stay with the Scottish giants, helping them claim the league title in every year as well as winning three successive domestic trebles. However, the centre-back has suffered a host of injury problems in recent campaigns.

According to Goal Germany, Southampton are interested in making a move for the defender and Simunovic is reportedly open to a move to the Saints. However, the Premier League side face competition from Bundesliga duo Stuttgart and Augsburg for his signature.

Southampton fans split over potential Simunovic move

Some Southampton fans believe that it would be a decent move by the Saints to bring in Simunovic to help ease their defensive issues, but others feel that his injury record makes it a gamble not worth taking.
