Former Premier League midfielder Jamie O’Hara has described Southampton striker Danny Ings as the ‘perfect fit’ for Manchester City, among other clubs.
Speaking on the talkSPORT Breakfast Show (Thursday, 8:40am), the former Tottenham, Wolves and Portsmouth midfielder claimed that Ings would be suited to several big-name clubs in the Premier League.
O’Hara said of the 28-year-old: “He’s in fantastic form, I think he’d be the perfect fit for Man City, Spurs, Arsenal. He played at Liverpool and it didn’t quite work out, he had a bad injury. Ings can play in a top six side for sure, a very talented footballer.”
Speculation around Ings’ long term future at St Mary’s has come under scrutiny in recent days as reports emerged suggesting that the striker harbours ambitions of playing Champions League football, a competition in which he featured four times for Liverpool.
With the Saints hopeful of tying down the 28-year-old to a new deal as his current contract expires in less than 18 months’ time, Tottenham – who registered their interest in him last summer – are keen once more.
READ SOUTHAMPTON VERDICT
Southampton are knocking on the door of the top six this season and have already achieved results against some of the clubs linked with Ings.
Barring perhaps City of those mentioned by O’Hara, it’s extremely difficult to predict who will earn Champions League football this season.
There’s no underlying unrest with Ings wrangling for a move; it instead seems that the striker is merely protecting his future ambitions.
That said, having arrived at Southampton and rebuilt his career to where it is now with the help of Ralph Hasenhuttl, some might say the striker should be satisfied with his current hand.
