Many Southampton fans have been sharing their love towards former midfielder Gaston Ramirez after the club’s social media post this week.
The Uruguayan joined the club back in 2012 as a 21-year-old in a deal which cost the Saints an initial £12.15m. The attacking midfielder was on the books at St Mary’s for four years, making 55 appearances in all competitions on the south coast.
Ramirez scored eight times and provided eight assists for Southampton, eventually leaving for Middlesborough on a permanent basis in 2016.
Now with Italian outfit Sampdoria, the Uruguayan recently celebrated his 30th birthday. Ramirez’s goal involvement record with Sampdoria boasts a similar pattern to his Southampton stats. He has made 105 appearances for the Serie A side, scoring 16 goals and providing 18 assists. [Transfermarkt]
The Saints joined in with the good wishes, posting a video of him scoring against Everton to wish him a happy birthday. The video was watched more than 50,000 times, with these Southampton supporters sharing their love for the South American, who one fan hailed as a “baller”.
