Mohamed Elyounoussi has been in fine form for Celtic in recent weeks.
The 26-year-old, who rejoined the Scottish giants over the summer for a second loan spell, has scored 12 goals in all competitions for club and country this season.
Prior to the international break, the Norwegian netted a hat-trick in the 4-1 win over Motherwell, and days later, a transfer update regarding the versatile forward was revealed.
Football Insider reported that the Hoops will need to pay at least £8m for Elyounoussi, should they wish to make his loan permanent in the New Year.
We feel, though, as the Saints need to up that fee drastically or risk making a rare transfer slip up.
The £8m fee quoted is actually lower than Elyounoussi’s current Transfermarkt valuation.
Southampton paid Basel £16.2m for Elyounoussi in 2018 and are at risk of making an £8.2m loss if Celtic are successful with an £8m offer.
It’s not like the Saints need to be worried about losing the forward on a free transfer either as he’s under contract at St Mary’s until 2023.
Elyounoussi is an established international with 28 Norway caps to his name, so we feel as if the Saints need to up the reported £8m price tag prior to the January window.
