Manchester United signed Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton in 2015, in a deal which eventually rose to £31.5million.
The Saints made a huge profit on the French midfielder, who they landed from Strasbourg for just £1.35million seven years earlier.
Schneiderlin, who now plies his trade in his native country with Nice, is now worth £9million.
The defensive midfielder turned out on 257 occasions for The Saints, but following his St Mary’s exit, failed to kick on, and as time has gone on, it has come apparent that Southampton played a blinder when it came to Schneiderlin.
The France international helped Southampton to a seventh-place finish in his final season with the club but made just 47 appearances in his two years in Manchester.
Even though he won four trophies with the Red Devils, he failed to replicate his solid individual Saints displays with United, before failing to reignite his career with Everton.
During his last season on the south coast, Schneiderlin recorded a WhoScored Premier League average of 7.51.
Six seasons on, the midfielder has failed to improve on that score, only averaging above seven in two of those campaigns – that being his maiden years at Old Trafford and Goodison Park.
The Saints, looking back, should be thrilled with their 2015 business, which ultimately saw them bag a huge profit on what turned out to be a declining player.
